Marquette's Mens and Women's basketball team's put on the 2009-10 edition of Marquette Madness Friday night at the Al McGuire Center. Here's a brief recap of the event:

In the men’s scrimmage, the White Team came back to beat the Blue Team 29-28 on a put-back by senior Lazar Hayward as time expired.

David Cubillan pulled the White Team to within two points with a three-pointer at the 1:30 mark. Cubillan looked very comfortable at the point guard spot and made a nifty ally-oop pass to Jimmy Butler for a dunk in the first half.

The Blue team went to its big men early and often, allowing the crowd a good look at the games of sophomore Chris Otule and freshman Jeronne Maymon. Otule demonstrated some athletic post moves, including a turn-around hook shot. And Maymon was very aggressive going to the basket, scoring the Blue Team’s first 5 points in the second half.

Joe Fulce brought down the house during the State Farm Dunk Contest, recording two perfect scores in the final round to claim the championship over Hayward.

For his winning dunk, he took a bounce-pass from Maurice Acker – who was standing up in the concourse level – in-stride fro a straight-armed slam. His first dunk, a between-the-legs windmill, also received a perfect score from the judging panel, composed of current Milwaukee Bucks players and assistant coach Jim Boylan.

Freshman Youssoupha Mbao may not have advanced past the first round of the dunk contest, but he came up with an inventive use of props. He tied a string around his waist and attached a game controller to the other end, allowing Otule to play him like a videogame character.

Between the dunk contest and the men’s scrimmage, the chant “Vander Blue” could be heard coming from the student section. Blue, a senior from Madison Memorial High School, is the No. 4-ranked shooting guard in the class of 2010 according to Scout.com.

On the womens side, the Blue Team beat the Gold Team 16-13 in a short scrimmage behind the play of senior Angel Robinson.

The women’s volleyball team opened the night with a 3-0 (25-20, 25-22, 27-25) sweep of Georgetown.

The Golden Eagles came back from a 20-13 deficit to win game three behind 7 kills from sophomore Ciara Jones and several impressive defensive plays from senior Hailey Viola.
