Marquette lost its first game in Big East Conference action, falling to USF 57-56 on the road in Florida. Marquette[20-3, 9-1] was lead by Jerel McNeal who scored 22 points before fouling out late in the 2nd half. Out of a timeout with 10 seconds left, Wes Matthews drove down the right side for a bank shot that came out but MU's Lazar Hayward was there for a short tip but that would not go down.

The killer stat? Marquette shot 10-23 from the FT line.

By scoring 22 pts, McNeal moved ahead of Butch Lee into second place on Marquette's career scoring with 1,753 points. He is now 20 behind the school record of 1,773 set by George Thompson from 1966-69. McNeal has scored 20 points + in his last 7 games.
