MU Women win 2008 WNIT, 81-66 over Mich State

EAST LANSING. Mich.– Marquette(21-14) won its first ever WNIT title with an 81-66 victory over Michigan State on Saturday. Angel Robinson had 16 points/eight rebounds and Krystal Ellis, had 15 points and led a 23-2 run in the opening minutes. Erin Monfre, hit five 3-pointers in 8 atts… Jocelyn Mellen had 12 pts…it is the 9th Tournament title in MU history for the women….

MU was in finals for 2nd time in 3 yrs. They lost to Kan State 2006…It was the 2nd ever game in April….team finished 21-14…3rd yr in a row with 20 wins and 10th time ever….MU scored 45 pts in the first half for the second game in a row….Angel Robinson was on the all tourney team and Krystll Ellis was the WNIT MVP…..Attendance was 7,818… MU was trailing 7 to 6 early then went on a 26 to 4 run to lead 32 to 11. Very similar to semi final game vs Colorado when MU led 25-5 at Boulder. Mitchell’s team won their final 3 on road…at UK, Colorado and at Mich State, after WNIT wins at home over Creighton and Illinois.
