Posted Jan 24, 2008

The No. 20/21 Marquette University men’s basketball team returns home for the first time in two weeks, opening a two-game homestand Saturday night at the Bradley Center against DePaul in BIG EAST Conference action.

Jim Barbar (play-by-play) and Mike Kelley (analyst) will call the action in MU’s sixth national television broadcast of the campaign. The Golden Eagles lead the all-time series with the Blue Demons 61-43, but DePaul was able to post a 72-67 win in the most recent meeting between the two programs.

Marquette Football Gathering Scheduled For Saturday, Jan. 26

The Marquette University athletics department will honor its football program with a special gathering at the men’s basketball game against DePaul on Jan. 26. Nearly 50 members of the teams from the 40’s, 50’s and 60’s are expected to attend the event, which will be highlighted by a halftime recognition during the game against the Blue Demons.

Golden Eagles Return To Friendly Confines

Currently in possession of a 12-game winning streak dating back to last season, the Golden Eagles return to the Bradley Center hoping to snap a two-game skid that consists of a pair of setbacks on the road.

Marquette is 10-0 in Milwaukee this season, and nearly all of the team’s statistical categories improve in contests at home in relation to the team’s overall effort in the 17 outings to this point in 2007-08.

In the 10 victories, MU has won by an average of 25.6 points per game while shooting 48.6 percent from the field overall and 37.4 percent from behind the 3-point line. The squad is outrebounding its opponents by over six boards per game.

All of the above numbers are improvements from the season averages of 46.5 percent from the field and 36.5 percent from long distance. The rebound margin dips to just two per game while MU is defeating its opponents by an average of 14.5 points.

Acker Handing Out Assists Like Candy In Recent Games

In the team’s last four outings, sophomore guard Maurice Acker owns an impressive 4-to-1 assist-to-turnover ratio (16-to-4), while contributing 5.5 points and 1.3 rebounds per outing.

He has averaged 19.5 minutes per game in those contests and also owns four steals and a blocked shot during that time frame.

For the season, in an average of just 14.9 minutes per game, Acker owns 40 assists to rank third on the team in that category.
