Marquette will take on Georgetown in Washington D.C. Saturday morning and Andrew Phillips of MarquetteHoops.com takes a look at the Hoyas' starting lineup...

Conference: Big East

2005-2006 Record: 23-10 (10-6), lost in the Sweet 16 to eventual National Champion, Florida

2006-2007 Record: 17-5 (7-2)

Series with Marquette: Tied 2-2, having split a pair of meetings last season, MU winning in the regular season and GU winning in the Big East tournament. 

Coach: John Thompson, III.  Son of former Georgetown legend John Thompson, came to GU from Princeton, has compiled a 110-65 career record, and 42-23 record at GU. 

Interesting Fact: Son of Marquette legend Glenn “Doc” Rivers, Jeremiah Rivers is a freshman on the Hoyas, as well as the son of Georgetown legend Patrick Ewing, Patrick Ewing, Jr. 

 

Probable Starters:

#2 Jonathan Wallace: a 6’1” junior guard from Harvest, GA.  Averaging 11.3 ppg, 2.5 rpg, and 3.0 apg on 50.9% shooting from the field (82-161) and 48.3% shooting from beyond the arc (42-87).  Shoots 89.4% from the line.  Second on the team in turnovers with 57.

 

#21 Jessie Sapp: a 6’3” sophomore guard from New York, NY.  Averaging 9.0 ppg and 3.7 rpg, and 3.18 apg on 43.4% shooting from the field (72-166) and 32.9% from beyond the arc (25-76).  Shoots only 65.9% from the line, leads the team with 26 steals. 

 

#3 DaJuan Summers: a 6’8” freshman forward from Baltimore, MD.  Averaging 8.9 ppg and 3.0 rpg on 46.7% shooting from the field (63-135) and 36.4% from beyond the arc (24-66).  Only shoots 76.3% from the line, tied for second on the team in steals with 17.

 

#32 Jeff Green: a 6’9” junior forward from Hyattsville, MD.  Averaging 12.6 ppg, 3.63 apg, and 6.0 rpg on 52.6% shooting from the field (101-192) and 43.6% from beyond the arc (24-55).  Leads the team in assists with 80 and also in turnovers with 65.

 

#55 Roy Hibbert: a 7’2” junior center from Adelphi, MD.  Averaging 12.6 ppg and 6.2 rpg on 71.2% shooting from the field (109-153).  Is a 65.2% free throw shooter, but leads the team in scoring, rebounding and blocked shots (53). 

 

Key Reserve:

#1 Vernon Macklin: a 6’9” freshman forward from Portsmouth, VA.  Averaging 3.6 ppg and 1.5 rpg on 79.5% shooting from the field (31-39).  Is only a 35.3% free throw shooter (6-17).
