Marquette vs Syracuse - The 'Cuse Lineup

Marquette is preparing for Sunday's matchup against Syracuse and the Golden Eagles aim to get back on track. MarquetteHoops.com's Andrew Phillips gives us a look at the 'Cuse lineup....

Location: Syracuse, New York

Mascot: Orange

2005-2006 Record: 23-12 (7-9); Won the Big East Conference Tournament and lost in the first round of the NCAA tournament to Texas A&M

2006-2007: 11-4 (0-1)

All-Time Series with Marquette: Syracuse holds a 3-2 edge over Marquette, but the two have not faced since Marquette’s entrance to the Big East Conference.

Head Coach: Jim Boeheim, a member of the basketball hall of fame, has coached his alma mater for 30 years and has compiled a 726-253 record including the 2003 national championship and back to back Big East Tournament championships in 2005 and 2006, is famous for his 2-3 zone defense

 

 

Probable Starting Lineup:

 

#30 Josh Wright: a 6'2" junior guard from Utica, NY.  Averaging 9.1 ppg, 2.1 rpg, and 5.0 apg on 44.6% shooting from the field (37-83) and 41.7% from beyond the arc (15-36).  Is also averaging 1.6 steals per game

 

#23 Eric Devendorf: a 6'4"sophomore guard from Bay City, MI.  Averaging 12.2 ppg, 2.3 rpg, and 3.7 apg on 40.3% shooting from the field (54-134) and 37.5% from beyond the arc (21-56).  Is also an 84% free throw shooter

 

#34 Demetris Nichols: a 6'8"senior forward from Boston, MA.  Averaging 19.2 ppg, and 5.5 rpg on 48.8% shooting from the field (102-209) and 47.1% from beyond the arc (40-85).  Is also averaging 1.5 blocks per game, and takes the lions share of SU’s shots.

 

#33 Terrence Roberts: a 6'8" senior forward from Jersey City, NJ.  Averaging 8.8 ppg and 7.9 rpg on 56% shooting from the field (46-82), is only a 42% free throw shooter. 

 

#13 Darryl Watkins: a 6'11 senior center from Paterson, NJ.  Averaging 9.0 ppg and 6.7 rpg on 57.9% shooting from the field (44-76).  Also has 46 blocks on the season or 3.06 bpg but has fouled out of 3 games. 

 

Key Reserve:

#11 Paul Harris: a 6'5" freshman forward from Niagara Falls, NY.  Averaging 10.9 ppg, 2.06 apg, and 7.5 rpg on 45.2% shooting from the field (47-104) and 5.9% from beyond the arc (1-17).  Also shooting 69/7% on free throws. 

**Andrew Phillips is a senior majoring in Political Science and is also a member of the Marquette band!
