Beginning the season at 6-0 in the Big East Conference made for high hopes.
But since then, the Orange have gone 4-6 heading into their most recent contest with the DePaul Blue Demons.
Fresh off of a three-game losing streak, Syracuse struggled at times with DePaul as the lead switched hands three times and the game was at a stand-still on five occasions.
Then senior forward James Southerland found the inside of the nylon on a jumper with 4:21 remaining in the first half. The Orange took the lead there, and never gave it away again en route to a 78-57 victory.
On their senior night, Southerland and fellow veteran, senior guard Brandon Triche, ended in the top three in scoring for Syracuse in this match. Southerland led all Orange players as well as everyone from both sides with 22 points. Triche amounted 15.
Junior forward Cleveland Melvin tied Triche's output, with 15 for the Blue Demons.
Syracuse heads to the nation's capital of Washington, D.C., to end the regular season in a rematch with the Georgetown Hoyas on Saturday, March 9th, at Noon ET.
DePaul will also close out their regular season on Saturday, but will be at home, playing host to the Pittsburgh Panthers for a 2pm ET match-up.
