Three-star forward Brian Bridgewater got his season off to a solid start at the Thanksgiving Hoopfest in Duncanville, Texas. The Baton Rouge (La.) Scottlandville product is a talented two sport star, but now he seems to be focused on basketball.
“I am just looking forward to getting better as a team,” said Bridgewater. “We just have to watch film and get better overall.”
At 6-foot-5 and 235 pounds, Bridgewater is more of a power player than a wing, but he says he is working hard to round out his game.
“The game is coming along well,” said Bridgewater. “I have been working on my perimeter game and inside. I am just trying to help my team win a championship.”
Given his size and strength, Bridgewater actually looks more like a typical football player than he does a basketball player. Still Bridgewater says he thinks his focus will be on the hardwood going forward.
“I am still trying to decide and I am not real sure about it yet,” said Bridgewater. “Right now it seems like I am leaning more toward basketball. It is my first love, but I will see throughout the year.”
In terms of his recruitment, several schools remain in the mix.
“I am hearing from LSU, Alabama, South Alabama, Arizona, and a few other schools,” he noted.
At the moment no visits have been set up, but Bridgewater does know what he will be looking for in a school.
“Just I look for the background of the school and the education they provide,” said Bridgewater. “I want to see if it is a place that I will be comfortable for years. Also my family’s opinion is very important.”
Right now it looks like basketball is in Bridgewater’s future, but it is tough to know for sure if that is where he will end up.
