Just a few days after picking up a verbal commitment from 4-star big man J3, the Missouri Tigers…
Will one of top-rated PFs left go crimson?
Jones, out of La Porte, Indiana and rated three stars by Scout.com, made the trip to Pullman on Sept. 22. He came away a big fan of what the coaching staff and players showed him about college life on the Palouse.
"It was a really good visit for me," Jones said. "Pullman is a small town and I couldn't get in trouble out there because I would be focusing on basketball. It seemed like it could be a good fit for me."
On the other hand Jones said he wasn't quite sure if the college town atmosphere was quite what he had in mind for the next 4-5 years. In addition to Washington State, Jones has offers from Washington, California, DePaul, Marquette, Miami, Missouri, Oregon, Texas, Arizona, Boston College, Colorado and several other schools.
He told CF.C that he has trimmed his list down to a final four – with WSU, DePaul, Marquette and Missouri making his final cut.
AFTER HIS WAZZU VISIT, Jones took a trip to Depaul on Oct. 7 and came away impressed with what the Blue Demons had to offer. Depaul is located in the heart of Chicago, which offered a different experience to visiting Pullman, he said.
"It was really cool being in a big city like that," Jones said. "It kind of adds to the school life and I really like what I saw. We saw the facilities and the campus was great. I really enjoyed myself."
Jones' mother also graduated from DePaul, adding to his intrigue in attending the school. But as much fun as he had in the Windy City, Jones was quick to say he was equally impressed with what Washington State had to offer.
"Everyone in Pullman knows each other and I enjoyed that small town vibe," Jones said. "In Chicago, it's a big city and you could get lost or something, but it could be a big venue to play basketball and get noticed by pro scouts. Both places have their pros and cons but I really liked them evenly."
ONE THING THAT might stand out in Washington State's favor -- Jones' relationship with Cougar assistant coach Curtis Allen. Allen is WSU's point for the power forward's recruitment and the two have been in contact for nearly four years.
"We've been talking since my freshman year in high school," Jones said. "We talk on a daily basis and he is really great to talk and hang out with. He really knows about basketball and it's always great to talk about hoops with him."
He also has a solid relationship with WSU head man Ken Bone.
"He's a great guy as well," Jones said. "He's a really cool guy and we get along great. We always talk about my style of play and how I could fit on their team."
JONES SAID WSU is recruiting him as a power forward. Jones also said the Cougs like his versatility in the paint, specifically how he rebounds.
As a junior last season at Basha HS in Chandler, Ariz., Jones averaged 19.1 points and 10.2 rebounds per game. He moved to Indiana this summer and is currently a senior at La Lumiere Prep.
Jones will visit Missouri this weekend and is working on setting a date to visit Marquette.
"I'll probably make my decision before the early signing period in November," Jones said. "I really don't have a leader right now, but Washington State is a contender no doubt."
