Marquette had to endure one more Luke Fischer-less frontcourt, and the result was a tough one to swallow. Rival Wisconsin got back on track after a home loss to Duke Wednesday night with a sloppy 49-38 victory in front of a raucous BMO Harris Bradley Center crowd. Despite playing its best game of the year on defense, Marquette shot an atrocious 28.9 percent from the field.

It was the Wilsons day to shine on Sunday afternoon as Duane Wilson led the team with 30 and Derrick Wilson finished with 11 as Marquette claimed third place in the Orlando Classic tournament with a 67-59 victory over Tennessee. The Volunteers started the game with a 9-0 run and led by as many as 11, but MU finished the first half outscoring Tennessee 35-21 to take a 5pt lead into the half.

Orlando Fla. –#20 Michigan State’s Denzel Valentine shot lights out for a career-high 25 points leading the Spartans (5-1) over Marquette 79-68 in a semifinal at the Orlando Classic. Marquette (3-3) was led by Duane Wilson’s 15 pts and Matt Carlino added 14 points, seven rebounds and four assists. Marquette opened the game with a 9-4 lead but Mich State had a 13-2 run to lead 35-34 at the half.

The Marquette Golden Eagles lost their first game to a mid-major opponent since Dec. 2 2006, but it was not because of their captains. Seniors Derrick Wilson and Juan Anderson put up stellar performances Saturday afternoon at the BMO Harris Bradley Center. Anderson scored 23 points, while Wilson added a career-high 17 points.

After a tight loss to Ohio State Tuesday night in Columbus, the Marquette Golden Eagles headed back to the BMO Harris Bradley Center for a matchup with the University of Nebraska-Omaha. The Mavericks came into the matchup second in the nation in possessions per game. To improve to 2-1 on the season, the Golden Eagles would have to be able to lock down on transition defense.
